Treble Olympic champion Anni Friesinger-Postma decided on Wednesday to end her speed skating career due to an articular cartilage damage in her knee.
“I have to accept that my knee joint no longer allows me, to go in for high performance sport”, said the 33-year-old Friesinger-Postma at her official homepage.
Friesinger- Postam celebrated her last triumph at the Olympic Games in Vancouver 2010 when the German team earned the golden medal.
“I have to thank my family, my intimates, my friends, my coach Gianni, my therapists and doctors and all my partners that supported me through the years. I’m happy to look back at successful times that I have shared with all of you,” she said.
